“Mama’s House”, 2023 (24m)

Season premiere. Camara was only a child when she visited her grandmother’s unique house on the island of Dominica in the West Indies. But, when Hurricane Maria devastated the region in 2017, her grandmother died in the storm, leaving Camara to sift through her own hazy memories of her relative and her home and to reconcile a way forward.

Reporters Camara Aaron and Nyeda Sam probe the Yale Dramat’s production of Spring Awakening and the grassroots show trans student and students of color put up in reaction to it.

In 2017, Yale University opened two new residential colleges: Benjamin Franklin and Pauli Murray. When reporter Camara Aaron (a member of Franklin’s inaugural first year class) noticed these dorms were Blacker than others on campus, she investigated why that may be, questioning how inclusive Yale really is for students of color.
